Terms of Service
Last updated: 20 May 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Rivet, a software service for managing electronics repair shops, provided by Jason Coughlan, an individual based in An Muileann gCearr, Ireland (“we”, “us”, “our”, or “Rivet”).
By signing up for Rivet, you (“you”, “the Shop”, or “Customer”) agree to these Terms.
1. What Rivet is
Rivet is a web-based software service that allows independent electronics repair shops to:
- Log and track repairs from intake to collection
- Manage customer details and repair history
- Send automated SMS notifications to their customers about repair status
- Provide a public tracking link to their customers
We provide the service. You use it to run your shop.
2. Your account
To use Rivet, you need to create an account. You agree to:
- Provide accurate, current information when signing up
- Keep your login credentials secure
- Notify us promptly of any unauthorised access
- Use Rivet for legitimate repair shop operations only
You are responsible for all activity that happens under your account.
3. Subscription and payment
3.1 Pricing
- Standard subscription: €50 per month
- Founding customer rate (first 5 customers only): €25 per month, locked in for the lifetime of your subscription
- Prices are exclusive of any applicable taxes (e.g. VAT)
3.2 Billing
- Subscriptions are billed monthly in advance
- The contract is month-to-month with no minimum commitment
- You can cancel any time. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current paid month.
3.3 No refunds for partial months
If you cancel mid-month, your access continues until the end of the paid period. We do not offer pro-rated refunds for partial months.
3.4 Failed payments
If a payment fails:
- We will attempt to contact you to resolve the issue
- After 7 days from the failed payment date, your account access will be suspended
- After 30 days, we may permanently close the account and delete the data (with reasonable notice)
3.5 Price changes
We may change prices for new customers at any time. Existing customers will receive at least 30 days written notice of any price increase, and may cancel before the new price takes effect. Founding customers’ rate of €25/month is locked in for life and will not be increased.
4. Your responsibilities
You agree to:
- Use Rivet only for lawful repair shop business
- Not use the service to harass, defraud, or spam customers
- Comply with all applicable laws including GDPR, the Irish Data Protection Acts, and any consumer protection regulations
- Obtain appropriate consent from your customers before storing their data in Rivet or sending them SMS notifications
- Not attempt to reverse engineer, copy, or resell the service
- Pay your subscription fees on time
5. SMS notifications
Rivet sends automated SMS messages to your customers on your behalf when repair status changes. By using this feature:
- You are responsible for the accuracy of the customer phone numbers you enter
- You are responsible for obtaining appropriate consent from your customers to receive these messages
- We use a third-party SMS provider (currently ClickSend) to send these messages
- SMS message contents and delivery status are logged by both us and our SMS provider
We make best efforts to deliver SMS messages but cannot guarantee 100% delivery rates, which depend on third-party carriers and recipient devices.
6. Service availability
We aim to keep Rivet available 24/7 but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. We may need to perform maintenance, fix bugs, or make changes — we will provide reasonable notice when possible.
We are not liable for downtime caused by third-party providers (e.g. Supabase, Vercel, ClickSend) outside our reasonable control.
7. Data ownership
7.1 Your data
You own the data you enter into Rivet — your customers, repairs, prices, notes. We do not claim ownership over your business data.
7.2 Your customers’ data
Your customers’ personal information (names, phone numbers, devices, etc.) belongs to them and is stored by you using Rivet. You are the Data Controller of this information; we are a Data Processor acting on your instructions. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
7.3 Data export and deletion
You can request a full export of your data at any time. Upon account closure, we will provide an export and delete your data within 30 days (subject to backup retention).
8. Our access to your data
We may access your account data in the following circumstances:
- With your permission — to help diagnose bugs, answer support questions, or assist with onboarding
- Without your permission — only if legally required (e.g. court order), or in cases of suspected serious abuse (e.g. fraud)
We will not view your data routinely. We will not sell or share your data with third parties for marketing or analytics.
9. Account termination
9.1 You can close your account at any time
Cancel via your account settings, by emailing us, or by ceasing payment.
9.2 We can close your account if you breach these Terms
We reserve the right to suspend or close accounts that:
- Have unpaid balances after the grace period
- Engage in fraudulent or abusive use
- Violate applicable laws
- Repeatedly violate these Terms
We will provide reasonable notice and an opportunity to remedy where appropriate, except in cases of serious abuse.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We provide Rivet “as is” without warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose
- Our total liability for any claim arising from these Terms is limited to the fees you have paid us in the previous 6 months
- We are not liable for indirect, consequential, or punitive damages
This limitation does not apply to liability that cannot be excluded under Irish law (e.g. for death, personal injury, fraud).
11. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms occasionally. If we make material changes:
- We will notify you by email at least 30 days before they take effect
- Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance
- If you don’t agree, you can cancel before the new Terms apply
12. Transfer of the agreement
These Terms are currently between you and Jason Coughlan (individual sole proprietor). We intend to incorporate as a limited company within the next several months. Upon incorporation:
- This agreement will automatically transfer to the new company (e.g. “Rivet Limited”)
- We will provide reasonable notice via email
- All your rights and our obligations transfer unchanged
13. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by Irish law. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Ireland.
We encourage resolving issues directly first — please email support before pursuing legal action.
